Symptoms of Stress
Showing signs of stress can vary from person to person and various environmental or additional medical issues may cause or exasperate the stress.
Stress can affect people in many different ways from the way you behave on a day to day basis to how or what you eat. It is important to understand that if you experience multiple of these symptoms and you are unable to handle and cope to see your local GP as soon as you can. Prolonged high amounts of unmanageable stress can cause drastic health and mental problems if not relieved or controlled. Behavioural Symptoms
- Comfort eating or under eating
- Increase consumption of alcohol
- Increase smoking of cigarettes
- Increased caffeine consumption
- Feeling constantly tired
Emotional Symptoms
- Lack of concentration
- Unbalanced mood swings
- Lack of patience
- Feeling demotivated and depressed
- Easily irritated
Physical Symptoms
- Headaches or migraines
- Nausea or dizziness
- Chest, back and neck pain
- Increase likelihood of getting the flu or a cold
- Hair loss or hair turning grey
- Stomach and muscle cramps
- Present medical conditions may become worse
Cognitive Symptoms
- Paranoia
- Constant worrying
- Anxiety
- Memory problems
These symptoms are not pure fact, the extent of which these symptoms are experienced will vary; some may constantly get migraines during stress but never a loss of appetite or experience sleeping problems. It is good to recognise what is not normal for yourself; have you been eating irregularly or comfort eating; have you recently become short tempered and irritable? What is your character and what is ‘out of character.’
